Sulphur Recovery

Presented at the GPA Europe Young Professional Training Day at IFP en in Rueil-Malmaison, France on 16 March 2017 by Thibaut Heim, Prosernat

Crude oil and natural gas produced worldwide frequently contain various amounts of sulphur compounds in the form of H2S, mercaptans and other derivatives. Sulphur compounds must be eliminated during the elaboration of commercial products to reduce corrosion issues and mostly to limit the environmental impact linked to the emission of SO2. Sulphur compounds are since long ago recovered as elemental sulphur by a combination of Amine, Claus and various types of Tail Gas Treating processes, some of them innovative. The target recovery performance is usually a compromise resulting from local regulation and economical criterions. Sulphur is mostly used in the production of sulfuric acid, fertilizers and in the chemical industry.
