Strong Synergies by Integrating Membrane Gas Separation, Gas Expansion-Liquefaction and Contaminant Freeze-out Processes.
Presented at 2017 Spring Conference held at Hilton Garden Inn, Milan North on 17 - 19 May 2017 by Michiel van Aken, Osomo Projects & Geoff Skinner, Gasconsult
The paper will discuss the benefits of combining the following unit operations in an integrated small-scale LNG scheme: 1. Standard membrane gas separation, yet with a huge improvement of CO2 and water separation by a ‘flash gas to sweep gas’ concept. 2. Dense phase (super-critical) liquefaction with an open cycle, gas expansion refrigeration process. 3. Contaminant freeze-out and 3-phase separation in one vessel, post liquefaction. The integrated concept allows processing a wide range of gas compositions, has a low equipment count and is safe and simple to operate. It becomes possible to economically produce LNG at an extremely small-scale. This paper will describe in detail the integrated process scheme and equipment selection and will also discuss test results of a LNG pilot unit, providing proof of concept.
