Odorization of Natural Gas – the standard solution for safety. What about LNG?

The paper presents first the gas odorization as safety standard to detect gas leakages. Different odorants choices with advantages and inconvenients are discussed. A particular focus is done on present Natural Gas sulfur content in Europe, before and after odorization.

Based on a scheme of the supply chain of Natural Gas the present status of gas odorization for NGV (Natural Gas Vehicles), particularly CNG (Compressed Natural Gas), is detailed before suggesting different options where and how to odorize LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) for transport or remote satellite LNG storages. This includes a discussion of possible scenarios of LNG leakages when used as fuel and how to cope with.
