The treatment of acid gases with low contents of H2S raises many issues for the design of sulphur plant. The cost of units skyrocket when the content of H2S lowers, especially if contaminants are present. A new plant with an integrated Acid Gas Removal Unit (AGRU), Sulphur Recovery Unit (SRU) and Tail Gas Unit (TGTU) has been successfully started-up in Qatar. This new generation of AGRU has a common regeneration s including a hot low pressure flash of the rich solvent, which enriches acid gas above 55% H2S to feed the SRU. The paper compares various schemes used for the treatment of natural gases with low H2S/CO2 ratios, and reports how an integrated scheme saves costs of installations and energy. It includes the field experience.
