Abstract:
In the effort to tackle gas emissions to the atmosphere, fossil fuels carbon capture and storage (CCS) can make an important contribution. The main challenge faced by CCS is the actual carbon dioxide utilization. A solution could be to use the CO2 captured for enhanced hydrocarbon recovery in gas fields.
In the study presented in this paper, the CO2, captured from an existing power plant, will be injected into an existing partially depleted gas field. The objective of the study is to investigate whether hydrocarbons could still be recovered from the gas extracted from the field, after CO2 injection would commence. In order to recover the hydrocarbons, an existing natural gas liquid (NGL) production facility will be used. This paper presents the technical solutions and the economical results elaborated in the study.
