Advancements to MEG Recovery Processes
In the past couple of years Schlumberger has developed a number of technologies which will not only improve the MEG Recovery system performance but they also have significant impact on the overall space and weight requirements for the processing module.
Innovative Technologies:
- Improved Reclaimer (Flash Separator) design,
- Desalting Hydrocyclones,
- Wide Gap Plate Heat Exchangers, &
- Dynamic Crossflow Filters
The presentation outlines the benefits these four technologies bring to system performance and reduced operator interventions by improving efficiency, reliability and availability of the plant. The MEG Recovery process typically encounters a wide range of contaminants in the feed stream, and sometimes created by the process itself, and therefore the driver behind these developments has been to make the system more robust to such impurities.
In addition, these technologies have resulted in a 45% decrease in the overall module size and a 25% reduction in the weight. As there is always a correlation between size, weight and the cost, these innovative technologies realize a cost reduction of approximately 30% for the MEG Recovery plant.
The MEG Recovery system is typically one of the largest processing plants either onshore or offshore onshore therefore these reductions can have significant bearing on the field’s hydrate inhibition strategy.
