Over 1100 Tcf of global gas resources are contaminated with high concentrations of CO2 or H2S. As world demand for gas increases attention is turning towards developing these more difficult resources. The new technologies being progressed are expected to reduce project development cost for contaminated fields by as much as 40% and leave more gas for sales. Technology solutions and the technical challenges are discussed as well as understanding the subsurface behaviour of H2S and/or CO2 after re-injection for reservoir pressure maintenance or disposal.
