Effective Achievement of Inherently Safer Design
Presented at AGM & Technical Meeting, 23 November 2017 at Hilton London Paddington HOtel, London by Julie Venables and Nick Amott, Fluor
Engineering companies develop designs to build a wide range of oil and gas facilities. Given the relative cost effectiveness and importance of engineering in reducing the potential for major accident hazards; effective application of the principles of Inherently Safer Design (ISD) is paramount. This paper explores the concepts and practicalities of achieving ISD. A review of tools and techniques used by organisations is presented, with associated advantages and pitfalls, and concludes that a range of approaches is required to achieve effective application.
