GPA Europe December 2024 Newsletter
Promoting technical and operational excellence throughout the
European Gas Industry
Thank you from GPAE
A big thank you to all delegates and speakers who attended our Technical Meeting & AGM 2024. We had seven high-quality technical presentations, generating thought provoking discussions. Our AGM followed, with Myrian Schenk presenting an overview of 2024.
Now that we have brought down the curtain on the GPA Europe Technical Meeting and AGM 2024, we are already looking ahead to next year. We will be hosting more Virtual Technical Webinars (** free to all - you can forward the invites to interested parties and/or potential members **) on the future energy areas, as well as our Annual Conference which will be held in The Hague.
By working together, learning from each other and investing in the right areas we can meet the energy demands of the future without compromising the present.

Stay involved with us in 2025: membership renewals for 2025 were sent out on the 2nd December and we look forward to seeing you at our events this coming year.
Get Involved in 2025
- April & September 2025: Our free Technical Webinar Series will continue
- June 2025: GPAE Annual Conference, The Hague
- November 2025: GPAE Technical Meeting & AGM, London
Be part of our conferences promoting a new energy future and the transition of our industry towards that future: we are looking for stories about the development of technology and best practices affecting Natural Gas processing. As well as a look at Hydrogen, Biogas, Ammonia, Carbon Capture and Storage, and LNG amongst others, to inspire the gas processing community.
Do you have a story to tell? To start with, all we need is a 100-200-word abstract. Send your abstract (Title, Author and 100-200 words) to [email protected]. It will be reviewed by our Technical Committee and, if accepted, we can help you to develop it into a technical paper and presentation.
Be an Award Winner: each year we present an award at our AGM for the best paper. The Best Paper Award is selected by our conference attendees and is based on the feedback scores received.
The Aungier Award is also granted for the best paper presented by one of our Young Professionals at our conferences. The winner is decided by our Technical Committee. Alongside the award, the winner will also receive £1,500.
Could this be you?

Paper of the Month
This month we are looking back to a paper from Carmella Alfano, Axens and Renaud Cadours, TotalEnergies. Our Best Paper Award Winners, presented during our Annual Conference 2024.
"Benefits of Latest HySWEET® Solvent Formulation: Insights from Recent Operational Units"
Over the last decade TotalEnergies developed a new gas treatment process by taking advantage of its extensive know-how and experience in sour gas processing. This new solvent technology relies on a hybrid solvent formulation using a mixture of amines and a physical compound to simultaneously remove acid gases and mercaptans. Additionally, this “all in one” solvent also simplifies the gas treatment chain, requires less energy and thus reduces the carbon intensity of the plant.
This technology has first been demonstrated and implemented in existing units of the Lacq plant since 2007. The last formulation based on MethylDiEthanolamine, Piperazine and a physical compound has been in operation in the SOBEGI industrial complex for 6 years.
Today AXENS is the exclusive Licensor of this new technology and has granted several licenses in the Middle East and North America. Recently the first AXENS’ commercial units have been successfully started-up.
This paper presents the benefits of the HySWEET® technology application on sour gas fields, relying on start-up and operational results.

As some of you may be aware, Helen is due to have a little bundle of joy in January 2025. Lesley Potts, who some of you got to meet during the November Technical Meeting & AGM, will be covering this role until Helen's return in October 2025. I'm sure Helen will share some photos of her new family when the time arrives, which we will share with the GPAE community. |
