GPA Europe January 2021 Newsletter

Happy New Year from all of us at GPA Europe!

As further dates become available for our 2021 Virtual Event Series, we bring you essential updates and what else to look out for in 2021.

Stay involved with us in 2021, membership renewals for 2021 have all been sent out and we look forward to seeing you at one of our virtual events, and hopefully conference, this year.

The Hot-Seat

A message from our Chairperson, Gary Bowerbank.

"As we come to the end of the most challenging year in most of our memories, it is time to reflect. I hope you were all able to spend some quality time with friends and families over the Christmas break, even if it was over Zoom. 2021 is likely to start off in a similar vein to 2020, but there is light at the end of the tunnel and our industry must be ready to meet the new challenges; be that restarting the economies with the fuels of today and ramping up the Energy Transition. We hope in the course of 2021 we can see you at at physical conference, but in the meantime make the most of our continued Virtual Events (see www.GPAEurope.com for details) and tell us what you need from your GPA via Email or LinkedIn. Let me wrap up, with a thanks to all those who contributed to our first ever Virtual Events Series and wish all our members a Happy New Year. Gary"

Our next sessions

This month we bring you two Virtual Sessions:

14 January 2021 - Young Professional Session on "Digitalisation"

21 January 2021 - Technical Session on "Troubleshooting poorly performing filters/coalescers"

Our previous session

Meet our Speakers 10 December

Thank you from all of us at GPA Europe to Christian Bladanet from TechnipFMC, and Matt Mardell from Shell Global Solutions for presenting at our Virtual Technical Session on 10 December 2020. Christian gave us examples of how the gas processing industry can help reaching a cleaner world and how we can be active players of the energy transition. Matt focused on why Hydrogen and Blue Hydrogen matter, Shell's Blue Hydrogen Technologies, and internal studies which compare Green and Blue Hydrogen.

Did you miss the sessions? All our sessions from the Virtual Event Series are available for GPA Europe members to watch for free on our website here.

GPA Europe Key Strategic Initiative Groups

Following the Annual General Meeting, Gary Bowerbank presented the work that has been carried out to date, looking at the future of GPA Europe. During this presentation, the Future Energy KSI group requested Energy Champions who will be assigned to a small team focussed on each ‘new’ gas vector identified: CCS, Hydrogen, Biogas, Ammonia – we are open to other suggestions from our members.

If you would be interested in being an Energy Champion, please get in touch with us at [email protected] or on +44 (0)1252 625 542. We will be forming these groups this month, once all interest has been received.

In order to continually improve and ensure we are meeting our Member’s needs; we would really value any feedback you have on the work carried out under these KSI groups. Please can you complete our online feedback form or provide direct via email to [email protected].

We will be continuing the work started by our Key Strategic Initiatives groups if you are interested in being part of a group, or would like more information, please let us know at [email protected] or +44 (0)1252 625 542.

Paper of the Month

We will be highlighting a paper of relevance from our archives each month.

This month we are looking back to a paper from Simon Crawley-Boevey and co-authored by Alessandro Bettin, Baker Hughes, a GE company (BHGE). Presented by Simon at our 2018 Autumn Conference in Barcelona:

"Digital Gas Plant: Leverage digital to improve efficiency and boost profitability, while better managing risk"

Through a very interesting presentation, Simon showed the audience that the gas industry is changing, and moving into digitalisation. Converging ideas from process and automation, his paper looked at how operators integrate asset performance management solutions with process simulation models and data analytics to allow them to predict and quantify operations, thus increasing profitability.

"The gas industry is witnessing an important convergence in the process and operational worlds. This paper looks at how operators can integrate asset performance management (APM) solutions, together with process simulation models and data analytics, to allow for continuous interrogation of plant data against the process model, thus providing the ability to predict and quantify operational decisions in near real-time to manage risk and boost profitability. The paper considers two use cases, one for offshore production and one for an LNG plant to illustrate the workflow and the outcomes."
