"Promoting Technical and Operational Excellence in The European Gas Processing Industry"

Who are we?

A bit of background

GPA founded in the US in the 1920's. In 1983, GPA Europe was established as a parallel organisation.

We currently have over 200 members, including the great majority of European gas companies. We aim to provide a forum to share ideas by bringing together business and technical leaders from a range of gas processing organisations across 20+ countries.

We are a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to advancing gas processing, LNG, hydrogen, carbon capture, and associated energy technologies across Europe and beyond.

We bring together students, engineers, technical specialists, business leaders, and operating companies to share knowledge, develop best practices, and shape the future of the gas and energy transition industries.

Here at GPAE , our role is two-fold:

1  GPAE promotes technical and operational excellence

2  GPAE serves as a forum for the exchange of ideas and information

Paper of the Month - May 2026

This month we are looking back to a paper from Howard Secker, Honeywell UOP. The most downloaded paper from last month, presented at the GPAE Technical Meeting & AGM 2024.

A Novel Solution for Troubleshooting Natural Gas and CO2 Dehydration Unit Issues"

"For certain natural gas dehydration units where minimization of co-adsorption of contaminants such as H2S, CO2 and methanol are required, a 3A molecular sieve has long been the optimum solution. However, 3A molecular sieve has some limitations in adsorption capacity when compared to 4A molecular sieve and suffers from hydrothermal stability issues during regeneration. What customers need is a 4A sieve that behaves like a 3A sieve. Honeywell UOP’s UI-800 molecular sieve is exactly that, resulting in extended cycle times, fewer regenerations per annum, energy savings for the customer and reduced CO2 emissions.

These properties of UI-800 make it a perfect solution also for CO2 dehydration in carbon capture sequestration systems and other applications where drying of CO2 is required. The acidic nature of these streams can result in a short lifetime for a 3A mole sieve. Again, UI-800’s optimum adsorption capacity and stability in the presence of carbonic acid can result in extended bed life, providing cost savings for CO2 dehydration units."
